My name is Carly, and I love translating stories into the visual.

Whether it’s illustrations, storyboards, concept art, animations, inspiration boards, plushies, or clothing – I live for making ideas tangible.

I moved to Japan when I was eleven and lived there six years, which heavily influenced my artistic sense.  But I learned to draw first.  From the age of three I was illustrating my own stories about going to the grocery store and buying lobsters (fantasy knew no bounds then), dictating to my mother what she should write on each page since I couldn’t write words and sentences yet.  I bound my stories with staples, and read them back to myself daily.  As I grew I began creating characters, writing screenplays, penning novellas – and then I went to Japan and fell in love with the animation there.

I first got my B.A. in Film in the States, and then went to animation school in Japan where I learned how to produce anime for their market, utilizing their cost-saving techniques.  Fast-forward to today and I’m working to meld that aesthetic with current digital 2D and tradigital animation techniques used in the U.S.  But besides being an artist I’m also a production manager – I have experience running video, TV series, and commercial photoshoot productions, managing teams of creatives, and coordinating shoots in the real world.  I keep everyone on schedule and work tirelessly to realize the client’s creative vision.

As a production manager I’ve worked with ABC’s TV series “Lost”, The WB, and Kirin, just to name a few.  And since I’m also a working artist, I can not only oversee production but can also fit in to any position on the team when the work overwhelms.  Photoshop re-touching?  Flash animation?  Video editing?  Graphic design?  Page layouts?  Social media marketing?  Blogging?  I’m a versatile pinch-hitter that has your back every step of the way.

Let me know how I can help out your production and get it to that finish line…
